Everyone has a favorite time of day, and mine is Sunset. It is when the mountains turn pink at that exact moment the sun is about to set. I like to time my life around that moment to feel perfectly alive, and in tune with the aspects of nature. This moment is a touchstone of my life, something I have observed in my most fortunate moments, and there is an awesome awareness of being alive in those precious moments.
Ideally, we are all 'in the moment' all the time, yet this tends to be an allusive state of being, one which our brains want to sabotage as soon as we are there. Can you feel the peace of just being?
Another touchstone of aliveness, that I created for my own 'peaceful, benign superstition, is to see the constellation Orion in the night sky. When I see the Hunter Orion, with his belt, his outline of four bright star-points, and the Pleiades (the pale stars of the Seven Sisters) that are part of this constellation which can be seen out of your 'side sight'--not directly looking at them--I just know that everything is Okay. There is nothing wrong with the world, or me, or you, or anything, it just Is What It Is, and peace is deep inside, accessible, tangible.
No matter what happens peace is right there for you by just letting go of being wrong or right. Let go and just be.
What touchstones do you have that bring you to awareness of your aliveness in the moment?
Beautiful, Rosalie. I too was born on an island and live in the desert but the island is called Mt. Desert. You made me connect that today.
ReplyDeleteAs far as touchstones I need to think about that more. The first thing that came to mind sounds less than spiritual. I do love a good shower and have always felt thankful for hot running water to bathe in. Must have been those years in Alaska without running water that gave me so much appreciation for it.
I look forward to more of your posts.

Lovely post, dog's breath on my cheek, a big black lab head on my lap! xox Corrine
ReplyDeleteUnconditional love of animals...our dogs! What will life be without our Beloved Dog? I love Duchess, a german shepherd that shared growing up with me. Duchess protected me, and let me know that perfect aspect of love so well...Thank you for reminding me of that, Corrine.
DeleteMine has to be the sea, fossils, the moon and the night sky too it just puts everything in perspective .......takes me away from from looking down through a microscope which tends to happen in everyday humdrum.....in fact all things in nature ..........x
ReplyDeleteBig Full Moons, the Ocean always, fossils ! Stars...dreams.
DeleteWhat touchstone? I listen, to everything. The air. The light. My breath. It's all speaking. The touchstone is a posture of anticipation. Anticipation of the message. The information. What am I being told. What does the universe wish to teach me right now to advance its own evolution?

A poem of information, for you, Hector.

The light left the place and traveled.
Filtered by the density of space.
Companions being frequency and duration.
The stone had been traveling too.
It flowed then cooled then rolled to the sea.
The woman came to be with them and in doing so,
all was sanctified.
Her hand reached into the water.
The water was blessed by the skin.
The skin spoke to the stone.
The light arrived exactly on time.
Thank you so much. Beautiful, awesome poetry ! Stone, Water, Skin, Light...
